It is a Question of Editing

Most of us live in a mess.  We clutter our lives with our activities, our daily living, and stuff we all collect.  As I am wandering my way though mid-life I have decided it is time to cut down.  I know that it is easier to clean or to work on projects when the space isn't so crowded; but it is the most difficult thing to trash, donate, or sell possessions.  I want to make my life easier to do the things that I find productive and enjoy, so I am plowing my way through the project of editing.  Right now I am working through some clothing and my studio.  I am also trying to clean portions of my main living space and I am looking for things to edit out that will make that effort easier.  I did get a new cabinet for my studio to keep my art supplies in, so I will be trading in many for one.  It best features are that it has glass doors and it red, my new black.

Any time you see a house that is staged for sale, viewing it you generally don't see what most of us live with.  I was viewing an acquaintance photo of their puppies the other day and kind of shocked at the clutter; but that is what living is all about.  And, that is not to say we don't have our own clutter.  Here I am just really trying to make some hard decisions to make movement around the space easier.  One of my dilemmas is I own 4 drafting tables.  Three on the main level and one in the kitchen/family area; I see areas that are crowded, but just can’t bring myself to part with one of the worktables.  My other dilemma is I love chairs almost as much as I love my worktables and Afghan Hounds, just can't bring myself to part with any of those possessions.  Also, we have been sleeping in a loft and want to move to the main level sometime in the future.  That means more furniture on the main level; so something will have to go, eventually.

Another aspect of this is whether you consider possessions to represent your success.  I think a better look at success is if your life is simple, happy, healthy, and organized.  What would you want to edit out of your life to make it easier?  Tell me about what you would do to clean up your surroundings, and post a comment to share your thoughts with the folks who happen upon this blog post and you can serve as an inspiration for all of us.
